Al Eckstrand's altered wheelbase A/FX Plymouth - 1965. Al was part of
Plymouth's "Golden Comandos" drag race team. Al is a 2000 Drag
Racing Hall of Fame inductee. |

Al Eckstrand's Plymouth was powered by a Hilborn injected, 426 Hemi. You don't see too many folks dressed
like that at the drags these days. |

The Nolan and Wilbanks B/G coupe. Click
here for a close up shot of the car and their two mugs. |

The 'Outlaw'. Not sure who this
is. Notice the Coleman-Taylor Transmission pickup truck behind the
car. |

Folks got real close to the action before
the concrete wall was erected. |

Top end charge - early '60s. The
spectators' cars date this photo pretty well. |

An interesting view from the right side
hill. |

Chuck Hutton sponsored Dodge. Who's
car is this? |

As if the cars in the parking lot aren't
cool enough, check out the action on the track. |

Yuck! That's Travis' Ramblin Ram
after its untimely demise at Lakeland. |

There's Travis with his Ramblin' Ram,
aluminum nosed, factory Dodge racer. |

His buddy was driving when the motor mount broke, which in turn yanked
the shift-cable to the reverse-pattern, push-button Torqueflite transmission. |

When the car was shifted into neutral, it actually
went into reverse which put the shiny side down. |

Here's the Ramblin' Ram in better days. |

It's hard to see but the dealer emblem by
the trunk lock indicates the car came from Chuck Hutton. Memphians
know the name well. |

WHBQ Drag Festival -
July 1972. Here's what the action
looked like sitting up on the hill side. Dig
the ambulance poised at the opening of the retainer wall. It may
need to carry off some of those fans on the left side of the track for
smoke inhalation. |

This car must have looked better from above. Travis took this shot
from the crosswalk just as David Rubenstein did when he shot his
photo. |
