23-T and Bill Maverick's Little Red Wagon

This B/Econo Altered was campaigned in 1979 by the Akers brothers, locals who are still active racers today.  Tom Akers visited this site and signed the guestbook adding some additional 'color' to this page.  Here is an excerpt:

"We really enjoyed driving down memory lane. We raced there from '70 'til it closed. All of the cars that we raced at Lakeland; '40 Willys, '23 T-roadster, and '32 Bantam roadster were painted green. People always commented about how they remembered those cars. Now that we are racing fuel cars, people still remember and comment about those earlier days they saw us at Lakeland.  Some of these cars always seemed to stimulate controversy among local racers (ha). We really enjoyed those early days in our racing career."

In the background is the venerable Little Red Wagon wheelie truck.  Bill "Maverick" Golden is also still going strong these days.  Click here to see a 1978 Commercial Appeal newspaper article featuring Bill "Maverick" Golden at Lakeland with the Magnum Illusion wheelie car.
