	This hillside used to support the right side bleachers and a small white building towards the finish line. The main bleachers were on the left side of the track in an area that is now heavily wooded.

Here's a view of the track from the white building. All that remains of the building is some concrete, roof tin and these heavily charred support posts.

	These concrete steps used to lead to the little white building on the right side of the track.

THE COMMERCIAL APPEAL April 20, 1974

Some of the top names in drag racing will begin their two-day assault on the record book today at Lakeland International Raceway. The entry list for the $50,000 Superstar Drag Nationals includes Don Garlits, Don Schumacher, Mickey Thompson, Tommy Ivo, Al Vanderwoude and Shay Nichols. Today's program opens at noon, with tonight's racing scheduled for 8:30. Tomorrow's speed show begins at 2:30 p.m. More than 200 Mid-South drivers are expected to enter the two-day competition.
