This was the ritual for many a summer night;
everyone gathering around the GS resto-in-progress. A
favorite activity was watching the bug zapper working
overtime at the entrance to the barn.
Everything that was unbolted went into a side
stall to be worked on later. The left fender was dinged
up and rusted but salvageable.
The
hood on the other hand was pretty far gone where the left
side was hit. I found a decent hood in Pennsylvania which
strangely was originally painted Verde Green like my GS.
Those grimy, rusty engine parts spring to
life with some TLC. Lots of hand work though since I
didn't have access to a sand blaster.
August, 1986. Not having a proper engine
hoist at hand, I disassembled most of the motor in place
to lighten the load. No major damage in the engine, just
normal wear and lots of carbon.
Here I'm prepping the trunk for the Year One
patch panel. Right around this point I ran out of summer
vacation...back to college to hit the books again.
