1964 Buick Electra 225 - The Last Hurrah
June, 1989 - Jeff, my little
brother, hurt the original 401 in his '65 Gran Sport. I don't recall exactly
where we came up with this living donor but it was purchased for a paltry amount
for its still healthy 401. Well, we had to test it out of course before going
to the trouble of yanking it out.
Test track: Quiet cul-de-sac.
Location: Colts Neck, NJ
Time: High Noon
Fuel: whatever was in the tank
The test commences on schedule
with moderate pressure on the accelerator. |
The whitewall becomes obscured
in white smoke. |
As does the rear of the car. |
Not too shabby. |
Let's ease of the brake and let
'er roll. Looks like the rear package shelf isn't sealed so well. |
Eat your heart out John Force. |
I believe that's eclipsed the
phone pole... |
...and the trees. Hope nobody
calls the Fire Dept. |
In true funny car fashion, the
cabin is filled with the aroma of drag racing. That's better than one of
those pine tree air fresheners any day. |
The Wildcat 445 power plant has
made its mark. I believe it'll feel right at home between the Skylark Gran
Sport fenders. |
Geeze, we need to air this
monkey out. Tire smoke seeps from every crevice. |
Still smokin'! Let's get it to
the operating room as it seems to have passed with flying colors. |
I dub thee Electra GS! |
The operating room. |
Thanks to the old tank the Gran
Sport will roar again. The Electra's transmission was subsequently sold for the purchase price of the entire
car. |
From here, we cleaned and
repainted it and plunked it in the GS as is. |
